Mixtures Station Lab

Mixture Station Lab

You will visit each station for two minutes and observe the characteristics of each mixture.

Observations:
1) Write the characteristics of the mixture that you observe.
2) Stir the mixture and note if the appearance changes.
3) Does the mixture separate after you stir it?
4) Shake up the test tube at the station (place your finger over the top before shaking!) Then shine a flashlight through the mixture in the test tube and describe the path of the light beam through the mixture.

Analyzing:
1) What characteristic did the mixture (s) that separated after stirring share?
2) How do you think the mixture (s) in which the light’s path was visible differed from those in which it was not?
3) Which of the mixtures are solutions and why? Which of the mixtures are heterogeneous mixtures and why?
